Marvelous underwater waterfall illusion

What a great surprise to discover this fantastic nature’s mother gift. On this picture our eyes see a big waterfall underwater. The location is at the southeast coast of Africa on Mauritius which is an island close to the Reunion. In fact, it’s not a waterfall but just the water of the sea surrounding the Island. If you want to visit this place, you have to go on the Morne Brabant coast.  What do you think about it? Don’t you find it amazing?

Grüner Sea: the Jeky and Mr. Hyde Lake

The Grüner Sea (means Green Lake) is located in Styria, Austria. He has two personalities according to the season. During winter, the lake is only one or two meters deep in a hiking area. With the highest temperature due to the spring Sun Lake reaches its maximum depth of 12 meter. That means that during hot season, this lake covers hiking paths. Pictures are very beautiful and poetic. We see fishes swimming between bench and flowers, an original mix of life.

Water in sculpture

Ancient Water Art

Artists have been using water in sculpture for thousands of years.  The ancient Romans were famous for their beautiful fountains.  Back then, the fountains had a functional purpose since they were sources of water for residents of the city.  Although the sculpture that surrounded the flowing water was beautiful, the water itself was rarely used as part of the decoration.  The art was the sculpture of the boy who held a vase or of a lion's head.  Water flowed by gravity from the vase or the lion's mouth into a holding tank to be used by those who lived in the neighborhood.

Painting on water

Water is one of the most beautiful elements on Earth. Did you know that you can paint on it? Painting on water is based on an Asian technique of ink marbling called Suminagashi. Some artists have specialized in this type of abstract painting.

Water symbols in painting

Water is a hard element to paint.  Its finest state is clear and nearly as invisible as air.  Since it is central to the lives and activities of all living creatures, primitive artists needed a way to indicate the presence of water.

Educational campaigns about the save of the water in the US: Water, Water, Everywhere ! But Not A Drop To Drink

Only 2% of all the water on Earth is actually fit for consumption and, yes, that includes all the fresh water that is trapped in ice caps. Take the ice away and its less than 1%! Everyone knows that water is essential to all forms of life but some of us continue to use water as though it were an inexhaustible resource. While somewhere around a billion people across the world do not have adequate access to safe drinking water, only around 8% actually receive the treated water that many people take for granted.

Educational campaigns around water comsumption in the US

In the past, different countries all over the world have launched campaigns to promote adequate hydration. As more and more people choose to drink soda and other beverages high in sugar, a worldwide campaign for drinking water is called for, definitely. The United States, of course, is not far behind in this advocacy.

Water Bottles posters 50's

AN INTRODUCTION TO BOTTLED WATER

Bottled water has been around for many decades, however, advertising started to increase in the 1950’s. Many of the first advertisements are found in France as can be seen in the Vittel Water poster, "vittelloise-water-1959-eliza-fenn"
and the Poster Print advertising Arista bottled water by Mary Evans,

Both of these prints show different sides of society.

VITTEL WATER POSTER

The Vittel poster shows how water is good for the family. Implying that bottled water will help the equilibrium of the family. The muted blue colouring used to indicate water, with shadowing to show the movement of the water in the glasses. The ‘normal’ family of parents with 2 children are then drawn subtly into each of the glasses.  The wording ‘l'amie de la famille’ translates as the friend of the family encouraging the public to use water for the better health of their loved ones. In the poster the bottle is made of glass, this was before plastic bottles became popular. At the end of the 1960s, bottles started to be made of PVC (vinyl polychlorure). It was not until the 1980s, a new kind of plastic PET (polyethylene terephtalate), began to be used. Posters of the 1950’s always showed glass bottles.

ARISTA BOTTLED WATER POSTER

The Arista Bottled water poster is aimed at a different part of society, those who socialize. Here a goddess holds an enlarged bottle of Arista Water with a statement saying ‘The Source of Sterilized Water’ offering carbonated or non-carbonated types. The group of well-dressed men and women are all raising their glasses to the goddess of Sterilized Water, the colouring and lines are of the style of 19th Century artists; the red colouring of the female brings the eye to the poster.

BOTTLED WATER AND SOCIETY

Fresh water is an integral part of family life; bottled water enables the family to carry refreshment with them. Society in all guises now expects water to be at hand and bottled water offers this. The early years of bottled water, although aimed at societal groups, struggled to be accepted. Once society became more mobile then  bottled water became more acceptable. These early posters show the steps towards the acceptance today of the bottled water. The availability of the PVC and PET bottles increased the uses of bottled water, less danger from glass, and easily used safely by all members of society.
